ANGMAR
The land of Angmar is one of the grimmest places in all of Middle-earth. It is not black and twisted like Mordor, but heartbreakingly cold and barren. It lies in a northern fork in the Western Misty Mountains, and in the Eastern Misty Mountains. Little activity is centered upon the barren plain between the fork in the mountains; the border guard of men is set in the rolling hills upon the edge of the low plateau. These men watch the long border road that runs from Carn D?m to the southern tip of Angmar. The orcs prefer the safety of the tunnels in the mountains. In the East the Witch King has no border guard; the mountains bar entry into Angmar from that direction, except to those who know the orcish tunnels.
The Witch-king of Angmar is the most powerful of the Nazg?l. He was the the one who stabbed Frodo (LotR) with a Morgul-knife which almost killed the hobbit. After that failure he and the other ringwraiths were forced to return to Mordor. There the witch-king took control of Sauron′s army and launched an attack against Gondor. At Pelennor he slew the Lord of Rohan Théoden with his mace. For that he was challenged by Théoden′s niece Eowyn which he mistook for a man. He proclaimed that no man was fated to kill him and prepared to attack when Eowyn told him that she was a woman. Eowyn and the hobbit Meriadoc managed to destroy both him and his winged beast. Called dwimmerlaik by Eowyn, which means work of necromancy, spectre.
It's only a real small point but an important one. He seems to have
neglected to consider Glorfindel, who was the defender of Rivendell
and the one who led the elven forces against Angmar in 1975 when
Fornost Erain finally fell. Glorfindel was certainly the foremost
elven military commander left in Middle Earth after the death of

The Witch-King fleed with all he could gather North but the cavalry of Gondor with Earnur and a force from Rivendell under the Elf-lord Glorfindel overtook him and none, not a man or Orc escaped save the Witch-King who suddenly appeared and rode against Earnur to kill him but the horse of Earnur could not endure the hate and the cry of the Witch-King and it bore Earnur away before he could master it, Glorfindel on his white horse rode against the Witch-King but in the midst of his laughter the Witch-King turned to flight and passed into the shadow of the coming night and no-one saw where he went.....

Angmar是全中州最严酷可怖的地方之一。那里并不象Mordor一样黑暗而扭曲，却是令人心悸的寒冷的不毛之地。它位于东西迷雾山脉（Misty Mountains）的交界处北部。在山脉岔口处这片贫瘠的平原上鲜有动静，人类的边防军都驻扎在较低的高地边缘那些起伏的群山里，守望着从Carn Dûm到Angmar南端之间漫长的边境道路。Orc们则更喜欢走山岭中那些安全的地道，在东边巫王并未设下守卫，山脉阻挡了从这个方向进入Angmar的道路，但那些知晓Orcs的地道的人则不受此限。
Angmar的巫王是Nazgul（魔戒幽灵，受魔戒腐化而堕落的九个人类国王）中最强大的一个，就是他用Morgul之刃刺伤了Frodo，几乎要了这Hobbit人的命。那次失败之后，他和其他的魔戒幽灵不得不撤回Mordor，而巫王率领Sauron的军队从那里向Gondor发动了攻击。在Pelennor他用钉头锤杀害了Rohan国王Théoden，因此受到了Théoden的甥女，他误认为是男人的 Eowyn的挑战。他宣称上天注定没有哪个男人能置他于死地并准备攻击，而Eowyn告诉他她是个女子。Eowyn和Hobbit人Meriadoc联手杀死了他和他的飞翼魔兽。Eown称他为dwimmerlaik，意为招魂术的产物、鬼灵。

……巫王集合他所有的残部向北逃遁，但是Earnur率领的Gondor骑兵和精灵王Glorfindel统领的Rivendell军队撵上了他，没有一个人、一个Orc逃脱，除了巫王。他突然现身，策马直逼Earnur，妄图杀死他，但Earnur的坐骑无法忍受巫王发出的憎恨气息和尖啸，在Earnur重新控制住它之前逃开了。Glorfindel驱动白马冲向巫王，但是狂笑声中巫王转身便逃，冲进了暮色的暗影之中。黑夜将临，无人知晓他去向何方……
