| So, thou actually mean that babarians shall perform a better roll for the whole party as he exceeds a tanking fighter in the aspect of 'Damage Per Damage', which refers to how much damage a character may suffer in the course of dealing a certain amount to his or her opponent. Obviously, a babarian has the highest DPD in a low level party. |
For a low level party, especially for a 1st level party, melee character is supposed to deal damage, this is what your mage, your priest and your rogue cannot do. A high AC is always good to have, but not at the price of losing your damage dealing power. Every character has his role in a team, and for a melee character, damage dealing is the first priority.
As for Damage per Damage, I failed to see why it is obvious that a barbarian is the worst in a 1st level party. After all, the mage and the priest actually may never deal any damage at all. The damage dealing prowess of a two-handed weapon is far more superior compared with a one-handed weapon, and you only suffer 10% more chance to be hit.
PS: An archer is the best damage dealer in a 1st level party, if you luckily have one, probably you can switch to a shield.
